Pushing for Perfection

A Photographic Exhibition by Jez Smith

A photographic revelation that takes us into the intimate, behind-the-scenes world at Sydney Dance Company, as captured by acclaimed photographer Jez Smith. After spending time with the dancers backstage and in the rehearsal studio, Jez has emerged with a revealing series of photographs portraying the unseen rituals, the extraordinary physical strengths and the artistry of the dancers each of whom constantly pushes for a higher level of perfection.

Following the huge success of Shared Frequencies in March, the dancers invited Jez into the studio throughout the development and rehearsal process of Bonachela’s The Land of Yes and The Land of No, that premiered at Sydney Theatre in October. The series was displayed exclusively during Sydney Opera House’s Spring Dance Festival in September.
