Who will define the new dance landscape? Spring Dance premieres four works from the ‘New Breed’ of Australian choreographic talent. Featuring two of Australia’s premiere dance companies, New Breed represents the exciting future of Australian contemporary dance. Sydney Dance Company performs three short works Emily Amisano’s Bending the Map, Craig Bary’s Pictures of a One-Night Stand and Connor Dowling’s Dreamt I was a real Boy, while Australian Dance Theatre presents Larissa McGowan’s Slack. New Breed springs out of Australian Dance Theatre’s annual choreographic season, Ignition, and Sydney Dance Company’s Overture Series, an initiative made possible in 2008 through the support of the Harold Mitchell Foundation. These programs provide young choreographers with some of the essential tools necessary for their craft, tools that are often the hardest to obtain: a company of dancers, a designer, a composer, a studio space, a stage, lights, sound and importantly, an audience.
