David began his training at the Victorian College of Arts in 1998 finishing his secondary school education and completing a Bachelor of Arts in Dance.

After briefly freelancing while studying he joined West Australian Ballet (WAB) in 2002 and stayed with the Company until the end of 2003. In June 2004 David joined the Rambert Dance Company in London where he spent 2 years performing principal and soloist roles in works by Christopher Bruce, Rafael Bonachela, Wayne McGregor, Fredrick Ashton, Kim Branstrup and Michael Clark.

In 2006 David was invited to work with Javier de Frutos at Phoenix Dance Theatre. A whole new body of work was created for the Company with it receiving the Critics Circle Award for Best Repertoire in 2007 and further nominations the following year for best choreography. In 2008 he returned to WAB where he performed many  roles including Geppetto and the Cat in Pinocchio and Cass Mortimer-Eipper’s Yes I will move for you!

David joined Sydney Dance Company in January 2014 and will be part of the triple bill Interplay, featuring choreography by Rafael Bonachela, Jacopo Godani and Gideon Obarzanek. Interplay will premiere at Sydney Theatre (15 March – 5 April) followed by Canberra Theatre Centre (10-12 April) and Southbank Theatre, Melbourne (30 April – 10 May).
