MARKETING MANAGER

A rare opportunity exists to drive the external communications of Australia’s leading contemporary dance company.

Sydney Dance Company is seeking an experienced Marketing Manager to lead the hard working marketing team. The successful applicant will have a minimum of three years of management experience; have a strong knowledge of the performing arts industry and the ability to work well under pressure.

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of strategic marketing campaigns for self presented performance seasons as well as working with key stakeholders from venues around the world. They will work closely with the Marketing Coordinator, Publicist and Resident Multi-Media Artist to drive marketing strategies to increase attendance at Sydney Dance Company’s performances as well as maintain a strong, well-recognised international brand. The successful candidate will also develop communications around the Sydney Dance Company Studios and the newly formed Pre-Professional Year.

Sydney Dance Company is Australia’s leading contemporary dance company under the direction of Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela. In 2014 Sydney Dance Company celebrates its 45th Anniversary. Sydney Dance Company is located in on the Wharf at Walsh Bay, Sydney in the arts precinct shared with Sydney Theatre Company, Australian Theatre for Young People, Bangarra Dance Theatre and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.

Position Description: Marketing Manager

This position is responsible for delivering all of the marketing needs of Sydney Dance Company including the self-presented seasons in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as national and international tours. In addition to these campaigns, the marketing manager is responsible for the overall brand management of the organisation and contributes to positioning the Company at the forefront of contemporary dance nationally and internationally.

In consultation with the Executive Director and the Artistic Director develop, implement and monitor all marketing campaigns for the organisation and its strategic initiatives including audience development strategies, achieving box office income growth and maintain of position the Company at the forefront of contemporary dance nationally and internationally. These include:

Campaign Management

  • Develop marketing campaigns for all self presented seasons in Sydney and Melbourne
  • Develop digital marketing strategies including the management of the website
  • Develop advertising schedules and manage all booking and delivery
  • Work with venues to establish ticketing structures for self presented seasons
  • Track ticket sales
  • Work with the marketing coordinator to conduct thorough audience research

Strategic Marketing

  • develop strategic marketing plans for all performances and dance classes to achieve KPIs established in the Business Plan

Digital Marketing and IT

  • Oversee the use of all social media assets
  • Manage the website, working with web development agency
  • Work closely with other key staff on the implementation of the Tessitura Database
  • Work with the resident multimedia artist on the creation of all online content

Brand Management

  • work with the branding agency to maintain the Company brand

PR and communications

  • work closely with the publicist in the delivery of the publicity plan for all Sydney Dance Company activities

Relationships and staff management

  • manage the workload of the Marketing Coordinator
  • Work closely with all departments within the organisation including the development department on fundraising and sponsorship activities.
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders including branding agency, website development agency and suppliers.
  • Report to the Board of Directors on a regular basis on all marketing activities

Financial Management

  • work with the finance department and the Executive Director to establish the marketing budget to be maintained throughout the year.
  • Managed the marketing budget

Events

  • Work closely with the Development Department on the opening nights for all self presented seasons.
  • Manage guest lists and seating plans
  • Attend Sydney Dance Company events as required

Any other tasks as required.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years experience in management role
  • Demonstrated experience delivery effective strategic marketing campaigns
  • A comprehensive understanding of and experience in utilizing social media and online marketing assets
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A thorough understanding of the Australian performing arts industry
  • Excellent computer skills and using both Mac and PC platforms
  • Capacity to work under pressure with good humour in a team environment

Desirable

  • A tertiary degree in marketing or similar
  • Experience in using Creative Suite programs including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • An understanding of the dance industry
